One of Gateway's chief sources of design work when I joined the firm, for years Roger's Arena (then known as G. M. Place) had provided our interior design department with numerous projects in the Canuck's off-season.

Because of the scheduling involved in a facility used for both sporting events and concerts, the pace of work was always intense.  For years we had settled with carrying out recurring minor renovations to the bar area, brewery and private suite boxes.

In 2004, we were given the task to redesign the players lounge, players dressing room as well as the facilites

used by the coaching staff.  The job was to be carried out over two phases, over two seasons.

Phase one includes the lounge and changing room shown below.  The management wanted to provide a space for the players to arrive early on game day in order to minimize external distractions and channel focus.

Televisions, game stations etc. are placed throughout and care was taken to provide materials remeniscient of a 5-star hotel (in contrast to the previous venue which resembled, in many ways, a rapidly aging high school gymnasium's locker room).
