Designed for one of the interior designers in our office, the massing and articulation of this 1 1/2 storey house had a mid-century feel from the beginning.
Assigning all single-storey activity under one roof slope (slope to the right) and all double-storey activity under a separate roof slope (slope to the left) gives this house its charact-eristic midcentury butterfly roof shape.
Material for the cladding is limited to a couple of materials : including sealed exposed concrete (or acrylic fin-ish) and wood siding.
The ceiling and soffit material are the same and transition unchanged from the exterior to the interior. This trans-ition is made clearly visible above the transom windows which appear to effortlessly support the solid roof.
