Valence involves a simple arrange-ment of pins connecting a series of rings whose rotation along different axes can create a variety of complex shapes. These rings, ranging from small to large are connected so that each ring is linked to the immediate ring above it and below it. By shifting the pins (so that they don't line up in a straight axis), each spinning of a ring
completely changes the 3D shell around the center (light bulb).
Materials for the exterior of each shell can range from dark, opaque textured surfaces to glossy light, while the inside of each shell, or ring, is glossy white to best reflect the light bulb at the center, around which they appear to orbit.
